Join us for a special celebration marking 90 years of Wallington Library and its place at the heart of the local community.

As part of the event, a new rose bed will be planted in Wallington’s Garden, alongside the launch of a new Friends of Wallington Garden group, which will help care for and develop the space for visitors to enjoy.

Author Jacqueline Crooks, whose novel Skyward City explores themes of community and belonging, will also give a talk on the power of libraries and the important role they can play in bringing people together.

To mark the occasion, television gardener Charlie Dimmock will give a talk about gardening and the ways it can support positive wellbeing.

The Sing for Sutton choir, who meet weekly in the Mallinson Room, will also perform. The 30-strong choir will bring a selection of classic pop songs, including favourites from Elvis and other well-known artists.

Visitors will also be able to explore a new timeline charting the history of the library, from its early renovations to some of the more surprising stories of librarians who once lived on site. The timeline brings together research from Sutton’s Archives and Museums, offering a chance to discover more about the people and stories behind this much-loved local library.

As well as this archival and museum display we will have works of art on display created over the last nine years of local artists painting in the library.
